8 african startups unveiled as the 2021 technology pioneers by the world economic forum
The latest group of World Economic Forum "Technology Pioneers" is a blend of entrepreneurship, science, and engineering whose intent is on tackling global challenges. The 2021 cohort comprises 100 early and growth-stage companies from across the globe pioneering new innovations and technologies.

The pack was selected from a cohort of budding tech companies at the frontline of their respective industries. Susan Nesbitt, the Head of the Global Innovators community at the Forum said the innovators show " potential to not only shake up their industries but offer real solutions to global problems" as the main reasons behind their selection.

Once selected, the technology pioneers start a 2-year journey participating in World Economic Forum activities, initiatives, and events, bringing together fresh thinking and cutting-edge insights in critical global discussions.

The winners from Africa were Moringa School , Sokowatch and Gro Intelligence from Kenya, Kuda and 54Gene from Nigeria, mPharma from Ghana, Cambridge Industries from Ethiopia, and FlexFin Tx from Zimbabwe.

This is the first time in the cohort's history where over 30% of the community is female-led. The cohort is diverse and spread out across the globe - startups from 26 economies.

For a company to qualify it must pioneer new technologies and innovations and demonstrate innovation, impact and leadership, and relevance to the WEF platforms, in the selection criteria.
